  3. REST APIs: Learn By Coding If you're looking to build a REST API, this book can help you. In it, we walk you through building two API clients and three API servers. You'll code a basic API, an intermediate API, and finally a more complicated API.

You'll do this in the most popular PHP framework available today: Laravel. But it isn't necessary to know Laravel. You'll be able to follow along even if you aren't familiar with it. You can also take what you learn, and easily apply it to other languages and frameworks.

    You will learn how to:

    - design REST APIs
    - make HTTP requests and responses
    - return the proper HTTP codes
    - install the Homestead virtual machine
    - use Laravel's API routes, controllers, and resources
    - protect your API with token-based security
    - test your REST API with a Chrome extension
    - and much, much more

The source code per chapter is available in a GitHub repository, so you can use that to save time as you learn h ow to build REST APIs. REST APIs: Learn By Coding Contact seller
  4. Fix WordPress plugins and PHP 7.1 brokenness.: Mobile-first WordPress Speed (Plugin Surgery: tips and tricks Book 3) A 3,760-word article at WP Elevation is about the pain of producing websites. The article expresses everything we hate about website creation. The thought of building "explosive live hand grenades" stresses us. Just reading the article was stressful. Why?

Because it's true. The nit-picky horrors described are exactly what occur during web projects. Client or website owner expectations are high. Their technical knowledge is often low.

A new monster arose on the WordPress horizon. New problems for PagePipe anyway.

The fragile nature of WordPress and PHP v7.1.

Why does adding PHP 7.1 break your site? Our recent GoDaddy-host-server transition rattled the nerves of even the initiated. It's a good example of what goes wrong. Upgrading PHP version 5.6 to version 7.1 is a simple C-panel setting – but not without potential consequences.

PHP 7 released long ago on December, 3rd, 2015. GoDaddy didn't add this server option for a year and a half. Why? Because they knew the changes might break hundreds of thousands of WordPress websites. They left it up to users to perform the update. And they delayed the service call costs for as long as possible. The GoDaddy default version is set to 5.4. Making users choose their poison was smart. Users then are responsible for breakage. Or dialing back the PHP version themselves – or tracking down fixes. GoDaddy is blameless – sort of.

    WordPress Performance Tuning

To perform both domestically and globally, you have to cater to worst-case web scenarios. This means optimizing content at the origin and commodity host. Third-party CDN or full-page caching services doesn't guarantee success for poor optimized content. Origin optimizations should be your first priority.

Cost-benefit analysis for page load speed is an essential exercise for any site owner. Commit to delivering the best performance possible to your readers.

A site bloated with codes and scripts, especially external ones, can
only load so fast ... and there is only so much that can speed it up.

There's no better performance enhancement than loading only what you need on a web page. Once you've determined that, then optimize it.

You can't include the kitchen sink on your pages. Masking site bloat and still delivering sub-second page load speeds is a fantasy.

When your site has too much going on, it's time for value analysis.

Poor themes or social-sharing plugins place inefficient scripts and images on your site. Clean themes and the judicious use of plugins are key.

The single most effective solution to fix a slow site is keep what you need and jettison the rest. Beat back the bloat!

The biggest mistake using advanced solution components before taking care of the basics.
< br />Slow sites suffer from:
    Bloated CSS and JavaScript.
Inefficient image resizing or slider scripts.
Plugins that consume too much memory.

Stripped themes reduce bloat. Substitute heavy plugins for leaner ones. There are alternatives for improving performance. Three basics to look at are: static objects, dynamic calls, and 3rd-party scripts.

You could push these out to a CDN or full-page caching service. But spend your money on building a better foundation - a more vital, optimized origin.

The leading cause of slow-loading sites is scripts. They pull these from someone else's network. These include advertising, website analytics, and Facebook and Twitter social sharing.
